MYPS / SERVER KNOWLEDGE

How much RAM does your VPS need?

Start with your services, not a generic player count. Add up simultaneous requirements and check them under real load after launch.

What memory needs to support

Your main application is not the only consumer of RAM. The operating system, management services and any database need memory too. What matters is what runs simultaneously and what happens under load. An application's minimum requirement does not automatically describe a comfortable allocation for several services.

Plan in four steps

  1. List the services: include the operating system, website, bots, databases and game servers, plus planned expansions. Treat separate game instances separately.
  2. Check official requirements: use the documentation for your software and extensions. An empty base system is not a realistic benchmark for a complex installation.
  3. Combine simultaneous needs: do not size each application as though it were alone on the server. Include peaks, updates and maintenance as well as normal operation.
  4. Allow headroom and a measurement phase: choose an understandable reserve and check it under your actual conditions after setup. There is no universally suitable percentage.

Example calculation, not a system requirement: suppose you estimate 1 GB for the base system, 2 GB for applications and 1 GB for a database. Adding your own 1 GB reserve gives a planning requirement of 5 GB. Look for a plan with at least that allocation. These are illustrative numbers, not a recommendation for specific software.

Measure after launch

Check memory use in the operating system and, where available, the application's management tools. Look beyond an idle moment: observe startup and your expected busy period. Record which services are running. Compare several observations before deciding to upgrade from a single reading.

Diagnosis may also involve CPU load, disk access, application logs and configuration. More RAM does not automatically solve every bottleneck. Game-server needs depend on the framework and resources in use; they do not establish a guaranteed player count.

Choose a suitable plan

The MYPS server finder lets you select minimum RAM and a monthly base budget. Results help you select fixed plans; they do not automatically validate your software's capacity needs. If no offer meets both limits, the finder does not present an unsuitable plan as a match.

Compare EPYC or Ryzen plans directly. Allow storage for data and backups too. Review options and the total in your cart before ordering.

Still unsure?

When contacting support, describe your planned software, simultaneous services and approximate requirements. For an existing server, useful information includes load periods and sanitised error messages. Do not send passwords, licence keys or other secrets.
